Nothing like a bit of absolutely foundless speculation to end an evening.

DSCF4205 thumb - Who is the Belladrum 2012 Mystery Guest? - updated

(fairly convinced it is not these guys)

from the Bella press release:

“The identity of this artist will not be revealed until they appear on the Garden Stage at 1830 on Friday 3rd August,” said festival promoter Joe Gibbs. “But – and here’s a hint – judging by their previous receptions at Bella, they’re going to be a popular choice.”

So it’s a band, who have made more than one appearance (we are assuming). If the bookies decide to open a book on who is the famous Bella Mystery Guest, we would have to put the following names up there as, in more ways than one, favourites.

Twin Atlantic – they have virtually made Bella their home. An omission last year, but previous turns have seen them play the Garden Stage, Hothouse, and most famously their seated, the audience not the band, turn in the Seedlings Tent. A definite crowd pleaser. Apparently on tour – very little chance now.

Kassidy – As with Twin Atlantic, Kassidy have played just about every stage at the festival, even headlining the Hothouse last year. Interestingly, they have never played the Garden Stage. Will this be their year? We reckon Kassidy are dead certs, we have been wrong in the past but we are confident with this one.

Idlewild – Always popular. The reaction to their sets in 2008 and 2010 were both more than favourable. Web forums tend to clamour for their return. They would certainly fit the bill.

Scouting for Girls – A previous headliner in 2008, following on from a successful slot behind The Pigeon Detectives in 2007 in the Hothouse, they cannot be discounted. The headline slot may have divided opinion in the run up to the festival, their performance, however, vindicated their selection. They are in Ireland on the Saturday, making it not impossible.

They may be, in our opinion, the front runners. Have we missed any obvious candidates, or even an outsider. if so, let us know! (on twitter #bellasmysteryguess ) And,place your bets!!

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
