Now those with a good memory will know that Russian Ninjas first appeared on the website after winning the inaugural Achltibhue Battle of the Bands. Since that point there has been a change of personnel (gaining a new drummer through the wonder of Gumtree) and a relocation to Glasgow. The current line-up consists of Jamie Coltart, Andrew MacGillivray, Alexander McGarry and Jamie Allanach. Since being in Glasgow they have played the likes of the Box, Pivo Pivo and Bloc.

The sound of Russian Ninjas is difficult to put your finger on, Andrew explains “we’ve had punk rock.. we tend to have ourselves as rock with down beat indie sound, but everyone describes us differently” this eclectic sound comes from the preferences of the band members for different genres from soul.
The basis of the Russian Ninja sound comes from Jamie and Andrew, with a clear aim of creating different tunes to keep a fresh vibe.

Jamie spoke of his music influences as ranging from old school Biffy to folky Admiral Fallow via dance music and The Foals. An ideal support slot , Jamie felt, would be Bronto Skylift “they’re a bit mental like us and really lively performances” or Pulled apart by Horses “another really live band with a great show.”
Typical to many young bands, they are currently struggling to fund a second EP, particularly frustrating as they have the tracks but need to get the opportunity to record. “It shouldn’t be too far away.”

The master plan for the band is currently to gig as much as possible, taking the opportunities as they arise which they hope will mean Edinburgh to Thurso and anywhere in-between.

Next on the agenda is a mini tour that sees them play Glasgow at Bloc (12th April) Fort William(13th April) and finally Inverness at Mad Hatters(14th April).

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
