Rhythmnreel October catchup

Hi boys and girls,

Welcome to Rhythmnreel’s October catch-up. Its been a grand year and October has shown no sign of slowing up. We started off with a three charity gigs in Culbokie, Strathpeffer and then Stornoway. First was for a worthy local charity, the second was for the 40th anniversary of Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team. We have a great fondness for Dundonnell MRT. This was where Rhythmnreel was first formed 19 years ago – that sounds like an anniversary of our own for next year! We still have Stu and Mike from way back then. But it was great to catch up with some of the great pals that have played in the band over the years.

We then headed over to Stornoway for the 999 Ball. This is a great annual event where all the emergency services get seriously well dressed, throw a really grand ball and raise loads of money for charity all whilst having a great time. I think I have said a few times in these diaries that we are lucky to get a number of really great gigs during the year and the 999 ball is one of them. Such good fun going over on the boat, great hotel and we even wrote a song for the new CD when we were over there. It’s a song about the Aignish Riots in the 1800s. Cheery stuff! Thanks to Leila Angus for this photo

Did I say we were lucky… we then popped over to Germany in the van for 2 sold out gigs. Late nights and mega partying (and lots of hard graft) made this a smashing weekend. We are going back in March to play a gig for the Mayor of the town. We’ll maybe have to twin one of our favourite places on the continent with somewhere exotic in the Highlands – I can just see the sign… Scourie twinned with Gevelsberg.

We spent the Halloween weekend of October up in Durness in a fancy dress double header with the boys from Torridon. This is the second year we have done this with them. Fortunately, all photos are banned so you’ll just have to come with us next year!

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
