Al Murray – 11 June 2011 – Ironworks – The Barrel of Fun Tour!
Currently presenting the quiz show Compete For The Meat on Dave, the Perrier winning and Olivier Award nominated alter ego of Al Murray, The Pub Landlord arrived for a show in Inverness via dates in Orkney, Stornoway and Aberdeen to a hugely warm welcome from the 500 or so in the crowd.
Clearly in good form and very responsive to the crowd throughout the 2 part set, this show was more that good – Despite the distraction of a very over refreshed young woman who required to be seen and removed from the Ironworks by some paramedics having collapsed a few minutes into the show, the Pub Landlord took his usual roam through the front couple of rows and walked into several targets that he kept
close to him throughout the show.
Whilst playing with the front row and having dispatched the “Fake Gynaecologist”, the focus rounded on Penny and Morag, two young women who declared themselves as teachers and received a predictable and highly amusing declaration of intent as well as a glass of wine that Al bought for them – some poor guy that was sat in the front row that had just been given a bit of a doing for being a Policeman was converted into a makeshift runner and sent to the bar to acquire their drinks to the amusement of all except him!
The experience that Al has in managing himself and maintaining the crowd will no doubt be enviable of his peers – this evident in what was a tremendous show that he took in his stride – he seemed to be genuinely enjoying himself and was superbly engaged with the audience, there was little about this show that could be criticised – a genuine treat to see high end comedy acts in Inverness – well done to Al and the Ironworks for this.
The bold Mr Murray makes a return to Inverness Ironworks on the 23rd July 2011 for the
rescheduled gig that was due on the 12th June 2011 as he was obviously double booked for Download 2011 (Al plays the drums for the rock cover outfit T-34)
