Just for the record, We are Mars were one of the first bands that we featured in invernessGiGs. We were very pleased when the Steve, Scott and Christopher agreed to answer a few of our questions and on the way tell about what they have been up to, the eclectic style of the band and what to expect from their new EP.

For the uninitiated can you tell us about We are Mars?

WE ARE MARS are a three piece band, with a very eclectic sound and style to their music. The songs and sound of we are mars are not easily pigeon holed into a particular genre . The band influences travel form indie to rock, progressive and experimental and just about everything else in between. With eighteen of their own songs under their belt and new material constantly being written, We are Mars like the challenge to write something different every time. When it comes to live performances it’s all about trying to have a good time and putting on a rock and roll show! The band members of we are mars are Steve Farquhar (guitar and vocals) Scott McPherson (bass and vocals) and Christopher Thom (drums).

We are three guys that just love music. Between us we have played in a whole bunch of different bands with different sounds and styles. As someone said variety is the spice of life, that’s why we always like to be working on a new song for the next gig.

It seems that you have not been about for a bit, what have you been up to?

We have had about five months of which fells like along time the reason being we were a four piece band but are now just a three ,so we wanted to get sorted as a three piece band and record some new material that would match our sound as a three piece band, but we like the results so far.

How is the forthcoming EP sounding?

The new EP is sounding nice and Raw “Quite British New wave rock” as someone posted on one of our websites. The EP “There Will Be fire has has just been released Friday the 13th May. And is available for free on our Facebook page here to download all we ask is that you “like” us..

If somebody had not heard you before, what would be the track you would suggest to them, and why?

For any one that hasn’t head us yet the track we would probably recommend is Bedtime Story. Its quite soul full and a bit rocky its all lyrically about taking a chance and going with your decisions. But of the new EP I would Recommend Brass Monkeys is Just dirty rock and roll.

Please Face Book them here , My Space them here and visit their website here

Next Gigs are

Ceol-Mor Saturday the 21st of May

Mad hatters Saturday the 4th June (supporting Finding Albert)

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
