Rhythmnreel Monthly March Edition

Well boys and girls, for the second month in a row, it is almost spring – hopefully there wont be any more snow, lol

Rhythmnreel are now on their holidays – a combination of kids birthdays, hen nights and various bits n pieces means we are having a month off. Sounded like a good idea at the time… but we are all just raring to go again. What this does mean that we are rehearsing twice a week instead of just the once to get some new fiddle/pipe sets and original material so we don’t bore the pants off you over the summer.

Summer seems a long way off but it’ll come round soon enough. This years summer programme is looking like great fun – we are confirmed to be playing Kinlochbervie Gala Dance (16 July); Applecross Games (23 July); Achiltibuie Village Hall (29 July); Kyleakin Games (13 August) and Helmsdale Highland Games (20 August). We are so looking forwards to these marquee gigs – they are an absolute riot and for the uninitiated would be a good introduction to the sort of mischief we can invoke if you fancy a camping weekend. As ever the fantastic Scourie crew will be there – its been too long, girl and boys.

I delayed putting this edition of the diary together as we are very close to confirming some festival gigs over the summer and autumn here in the highlands and elsewhere. Alas, final confirmation is still awaited… our pals at InvernessGigs will be letting you know as soon as we know.

In the last month, we were down at Blairgowrie for a riotous motorbike rally – there’ll be a further rendezvous with these gentle souls at Applecross and Kyleakin! We’ve also played at a couple of weddings. We don’t do many weddings but I must say the last few have been brilliant. It is such a privilege to play on a couple’s special day and even better when the couple and the guests are totally up for the cup.

Next month we are back on the road to Gairloch for an Easter dance and we’ll be celebrating the Royal Wedding on the lovely Island of Lewis in Barvas Village Hall and the following night in Stornoway Golf Club. These will be swiftly followed by a trip to Germany where we are playing at a street party. I seem to remember that we agreed to take some of the Scourie crew to Germany when we go in October – tell me i was dreaming

See you all soon, keep an eye out for videos, event news etc. on facebook

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
