Siiga at the Grassroots stage

From the Isle of Skye, this is the closest that Siiga have been to home in a while after touring the album, ‘The Sea and the Mirror’. I happened upon them as I was doing the now near traditional Belladrum bimble as I got my head round the layout and any changes, whilst getting a feel for the atmosphere and planning out the bands to go and see.

Siiga had just started their set and it was very much a case of stop and go no further till they finished. Haunting guitar melodies with an equally haunting backing track. Very much music born and bred in the West Coast, the lushness of tones and heartfelt vocals evoke rain lashed hillsides and battleship grey seas. With that in mind, the music is anything but as bleak as the description might suggest, rather it’s the kind of thing you listen to with a fire on and daydreaming thoughts of summer.

Ethereal and wee bit like Sigur Ros, no bad thing in my view! It’s almost a pity it wasn’t raining! More than a few Bella punters went away with a new favourite band and I left feeling that I’ve found another band to look forward to listening to when I get home (best start with their website – Ed).

Make sure you check out our Belladrum 2015 page for all the news and reviews of what’s happening at the festival.

Still in the mood for a festival then check out the forthcoming North Hop festival featuring the best beer, gin and local music in the area.

I've always loved music and spent my late teens and early twenties playing guitar in various bands on Lewis and Aberdeen. Other than playing in some truly terrifying pubs in Aberdeen not much came of it and life became focused on family and having a 'proper' job. Inverness Gigs is an outlet for me to quell my inner frustrated musician and the caliber of local acts has even inspired me to take my own music more seriously again. Who knows, one day I might venture back on stage under the fierce scrutiny of an Inverness Gigs reviewer! You can contact Toby direct at Toby@Igi.gs
