I WILL TAKE YOU HUNTING – INTERVIEW

I Will Take You Hunting emerged in 2020 with a fresh DIY, garage-style punk sound, captivating their local scene with energetic live shows. Heartfelt lyrics and a diverse range of musical influences result in the band continuing to break boundaries and deliver authentic, soulful music. They play a double header at Belladrum on the Burke N Hare stage and we were grateful that Steve Simms answered a few questions for us.

You have ten words to describe your act, no more no less…

Feel Good Anarchy, Raw Righteous Rage, Honest, Positive, Happy Punks.

As an act how has 2023 treated you so far?

2023 has been very life affirming, as life long friends and as a band. Lots of fun, creativity and music. As always we have enjoyed commentating on the world around us lyrically and being able to shout about injustice and stupidity on stage.

We also shout about peace, love and inclusivety. We dont have many answers but like to question things. We are just 2 eejits living their best lives. If we can bring a smile to someones face or a inspire people to think a little deeper, then job done. If not oh well! Here today gone tomorrow.

You have three original songs to wow the Belladrum audience, which ones would they be and why?

These Clouds, Odds, Creepy Little Thing Want Love

You can hear the band via Bandcamp.

Festivals are renowned for horrible clashes, which act on the Belladrum line-up would you least like to clash with and why?

Hey it dosent matter to us. We could have a party in an empty room. As long as everyone has a good time, and is watching the bands they like. We are just delighted to be onstage. We are bringing a DJ for our sets at Belladrum, so you would be daft to miss this exclusive. DJ Butterscotch giving some authentic scratching and disc spinning. He is an awesome DJ.

What are your tips for coping with festival season?

Laugh and dance, like theres no tommorow.

What are your favourite memories of Belladrum?

Its about the vibe, the people. Favourite memory of Bella is Mr Boom in the Venus Flytrap Tent…because, why not! Dave and I have played at Bella before and we have fond memories of lots of moments.  Some moments we have forgotten because we were drunk.

Given the cartoon and comic theme of Belladrum 2023, which theme tune or song from animation  would you cover given the opportunity, and how would you make it your own?

Lol we don’t do covers…ever. Whats the point. You can only be yourself. Whats the point of being known for someone elses creation. Answer- Money. But for you i will answer – we would probably “Do you want to buld a snowman” from Frozen, because my son made me watch it so so many times, and it might be cathartic. A punk purge. And its mentioned in Deadpool 2.

Which cartoon or animation would you have appear on stage with you and why?

Beavis & Butthead would be ideal because we are music nerds and snigger and laugh a lot when we play our music. We are still those teenagers inside.

We actually have a few cartoons of ourselves drawn by our good pal. We made a Belladrum cartoon graphic for fun.

We have the artwork for our next release, nearly ready and we think it is very cool. We are very lucky to have such a great friend, who can do such great illustrative work.

What’s on the horizon for you after Belladrum?

In the future (but always living in the present) we are writing our 3rd Album, or it may even be a very long EP. It depends on the strength of material, as we are quite hard on ourselves and dont like filler tracks.

We are planning a UK tour with some very fine punk bands and hope to venture into Europe in 2023-2024.

I WILL TAKE YOU HUNTING (IWTYH) will appear on the Burke N Hare Stage at 10pm Friday 28th & Saturday 29th of July at Bella.

Forthcoming gigs-

Bannermans – Edinburgh – 9th August 2023

Tooth & Claw – Inverness 1st Sept 2023

More TBC including UK & European tour.
