Josephine Sillars show Ripped From The Wire Spine to play Inverness in November.
Josephine Sillars has long been part of the various music scenes of the local area although for the past couple of years has moved to Glasgow. She has been described by acclaimed director and writer, Kieran Hurley, as a “ genuine breath of fresh air. Apparently completely unconcerned with conforming to any hollow and short-lived musical trends, she instead just gets on with the business of crafting really excellent pop songs.” For those that have not listened to her before check out Hurricanes and / or February has a Smoking Problem.
Her forthcoming performance ‘Ripped From The Wire Spine’ is a slightly different proposition and is a story about coming of age in the Scottish Highlands and navigating the Scottish music scene into adulthood.
Ripped from the Wire Spine is an evolved version of a show that Josephine performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015, she described the original show as “very autobiographical. It was the highlights of everything I’d written between the ages of 14 and 19. I put the narrative in of coming of age, like ‘here’s a young person and their life through song’. It’s something everyone can tap into.”
Blending music, storytelling, spoken word, the multi-media performance features Emma Pollock, Declan Welsh, Emme Woods, Finn LeMarinel, Chrissy Barnacle and wecamefromwolves, as well as poetry from Ross McFarlane Poetry. This version of the show will also feature interviews with singer-songwriters from the area; Rachel Sermanni (see the teaser trailer below) and James Mackenzie.
You could do worse than spending ten minutes reading this excellent interview with Josephine about the show and her experiences.
Josephine Sillars show Ripped From The Wire Spine is on at the Eden Court, Inverness on October the 29 th.
