The Side release new track ‘Fight the Feeling’.

Having returned last year after a farewell gig in September 2011 The Side have been back in the studio and have now released their new single ‘Fight the Feeling’ on Fri 29th January. It’s trademark The Side earworm with catchy hooks and an uplifting melody. It’s very much in the vein of the performance picked up by our reviewer at Jocktoberfest last year:

“Next up were The Side, there’s an old school laddish feel to The Side. It’s upbeat and in your face and for original material it is very familiar to even the first time listener. In fact give lead singer Winnie a ‘dara dara’ or a ‘woo woo woohoo’ and I’m sure he’ll turn it into an instantly infectious song. In fact by the end of their set this fab four were beginning to have shades of the early Beatles.”

Recorded locally at North Highland College in Alness by Winnie it was then mixed and mastered by Gordon McNeil at Toy Town Records in Glasgow. The single is available from I-Tunes, Amazon and most online music stores. The Side launched the single on the same evening at the Ironworks, Inverness, that they supported The Complete Stone Roses.

Next up for The Side is SCBUSTOCK at the Spectrum Centre in Inverness on 27 February with an array of local talent to help raise funds for SCBU at Raigmore Hospital.

The band are then going to hibernate for a while to write and record their second album. Expect some exciting news to come out about that soon!

Frank Finlayson
Chartered surveyor by day, music reviewer by night, and occasionally I get to use my camera. A strange mix, but one that I enjoy. A chance meeting in the queue for Bella in 2010 led to the opportunity to write for InvernessGigs; a far cry from the days of writing for a football fanzine back in the late 80s, early 90s. My interests lie between the mainstream, the emerging and the local. Increasingly I find that we have more than enough locally to entertain us to necessitate a trip south. I’m always happy to give a listen, whatever the genre. Inverness has a plethora of talent, all of which I am more than keen to write about. If it encourages just one person to make the effort to listen to some new music I’ll be happy. You can contact Frank direct via frankieboyfin@gmail.com
