Organised through the Independent Musicians and Promoters the event in Dingwall is one of many throughout the country, the national organisers explain the idea;

“Every weekend across the UK we have an explosion of music and culture. It’s something to be proud of – Gigs, open mics, poetry, stand up. It makes our communities vibrant and strong.

But we also know that in our communities people are being hit hard by homelessness and poverty. There is a human cost to the politics of austerity.

‘We Shall Overcome’ is a simple shout out to the people who make our culture happen – the musicians, artists, promoters. For one weekend, let’s do what we do but let’s do it under one unified banner – We Shall Overcome. Let’s do it together to show our solidarity and send a message that we don’t agree with austerity politics.organise for a weekend of solidarity against austerity across the country.”

The idea has struck a chord with the concept , named after “We Shall Overcome” which was borne out of the African- American Civil Rights Movement, being  described as the biggest ever Independent Musician lead event.

Acts who will be playing the Dingwall event include Emma Mitchell, Davy Cowan, Sara Bills and the Love Ancients.

All money raised will go to helping refugees, with The Greenhouse is also being the drop off point for for local food banks, donations are always very welcome.

The local event will happen from 2pm Saturday the 3rd of October 2015 at The Greenhouse Dingwall.
