Interview with TSTMNT.

As part of our series of catch-ups with acts that have received support from Music Plus and are playing Belladrum 2015, sees us ask Glenn Robertson & Matthew Woods ,of TSTMNT, a few questions;
The duo, hailing from Aberdeen and are influenced by the likes of Tchami, ZHU and Shadow Child, have seen guest mixes featured in Glasgow based ‘Bedroom Traxx’ and London’s ‘Bedroom Antiqs’;
How do you describe your style and approach to music?
We’ve always tried our best to keep melody and musicality at the core of our productions, however we still have a lot more to learn. At this stage we are really just experimenting and having fun with it all.
In our live sets and online mixes we always try to expose people to music that they probably wouldn’t hear anywhere else. We keep a very close eye on new music that’s being released to ensure we stay current and fresh.
When did you realise that music would play an important role in your lives?
Glenn – I’ve always been into music for as long as I can remember really. My dad was the person who introduced me to a lot of different styles, ranging from artists like electronic Norwegian duo Röyksopp to the multi-instrumentalist Mike Oldfield. What I’m really trying to say is that music has always really been part of my life.
Matthew – For me, it was when I noticed that we were spending almost all of our time together either producing music or DJing. I know that music plays a crucial part in our lives and I’d say that it’s definitely more than a hobby, it’s a lifestyle choice.
What track are you looking forward to playing in front of the Belladrum audience?
I wouldn’t say there was one specific track I was looking forward to playing out the most, you can expect to hear some music from artists such as MORRT, Notize and KC Lights though. Check them all out if you haven’t heard of them before!
What have you taken from you experience with Music Plus?
Through Music Plus we’ve been introduced to a large group of people who share our passion for music. Mark Mackenzie has been an all round great guy really in mentoring us and we’ve always come away from our sessions having gained some form of knowledge or understanding.
On the few occasions that we’ve met Robbie Dunsmore he’s always been a gent and is definitely a guy who knows his stuff! Through Music Plus we also got to play our first live show at the Ironworks Venue in Inverness as part of the FÜGAZY club night, which was definitely an experience we’ll never forget.
TSTMNT will be playing Mother’s Ruin at 4pm on Saturday the 8th of August at Belladrum.
