Technology and the creative industries are now so interlinked it’s almost impossible to think how they worked before. In the last 15 years music has undergone a huge transformation due to new gadgets and software, from the recording, mixing and production through to the distribution, retailing and listening.

In film and TV, the rise of platforms like YouTube and Netflix are changing the way we consume and produce visual media. And the same, rapid, ever-increasing changes are happening in books, games and radio too. How do you keep up? What, in fact, do you need to keep up with, given all the choices? In this session we take a look at the extraordinary changes happening within the creative industries due to technology and give some insight and predictions for the future.

Neil Cartwright is the former Head of New Media at Sony Music UK and founder and current MD of leading digital marketing agency, Million Media. Million’s current/ previous list of clients include Jamiroquai, Channel4, O2 and The Prodigy.

A regular speaker at leading international trade events, Neil has also won a string if wards including a New Media Age Effectiveness Award, three Creative Art and Design Awards (CADS) and two Online Music Awards (OMA). He was also named in The Observer’s ‘Courvoisier Future 500’ as one of 500 people who will help shape the future of the UK.

A notefrom the editor

Support live music in Inverness by supporting IGigs! For over 10 years, IGigs has been showcasing the best of the local music scene through previews, reviews, photographs, and more. But maintaining the website incurs costs, and your support can help keep this invaluable resource alive.

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
