The band formed in Glastonbury, describe their music as dispensing modern folk music that incorporates elements of prog-rock, indie, classical, jazz and on top of that they bring some powerful and haunting vocals to the table. Reuters explained the sound as “A cross between Pentangle, The Kronos Quartet, Kate Bush & early Pink Floyd”.

Hannah Miller (songwriter, cellist and front singer ) acknowledges the mix of influences “People have listened to Moulettes and heard Shostakovich, Miles Davis, Pentangle, Pink Floyd, Bjork and even Skrillex. That is where we’ve all come from… everyone shares in over 80 years of recorded music history”.

Indeed as individuals, members of the band have shared the stage and studio with the likes of Mick Jagger, Nick Cave and Seasick Steve. They were most recently seen in the Highlands at Loopallu 2013, with other festival appearances including Bestival, Glastonbury and End of the Road.

The Moulettes released their third LP ‘Constellations’ in June, which was recorded in a diversity of spaces including churches, tunnels, workshops and bedrooms. The album was heralded by Folk Radio as “an album so full of ideas, wit and imagination that it seems to have grabbed a strand of the very fabric of creation itself and crocheted an alternate universe of the most intricate lacework.”

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
