The 19th of July sees the return of the Elphin Festival, we have a look at the acts playing at the event;
The afternoon session will see a mix of singer songwriters warm up the audiences. adullboy sounds a very intriguing proposition indeed announcing on his Facebook page “adullboy knows something important, he knows that everyone is pretending. And he captures it, perfectly in his songs. He writes songs that touch hearts, heads and hamstrings and wears his soul on his sleeve.”
Invernessian James Mackenzie travels up the road, following a four date tour of the Highlands earlier in the month, with a promise of a new solo EP coming soon, he certainly will be one to find time for. Les Frites Petites are “a loose collective of musicians, artists & songwriters based in West Lothian & a wee bit beyond” will also prove to be an interesting proposition for the event.
The afternoon will also see performances by Ross Mitchell, Annella, Anton & the Colts and Driftwood. Word has it that there might be an announcement or two to be made soon, so please keep an eye on the event’s Facebook page.
Starting the night (early at 6pm) are Dogsong Playing their second gig after a Dingwall slot last month. Lee-Anne Cornwall et al will open the event with their country influenced tunes. They will be joined on the bill by FaR with roots in the Highlands, the band have been recording new material recently although gigging more frequently in theri new base, Aberdeen.
Sara Bills & The Hasbeens , certainly appear a perfect fit for the festival with their “alternative folk punk” that earn them the title of local favourites in Inverness. If you have not heard them before then go check out their EP ‘Spill the Beans’, you won’t be dissapointed.
The four piece MIR return to the festival, following their slot last year, so the audience will be acquainted to the high octane Rock ‘n’ Roll conducted by Miriam and Co.
As our reviewer noted ; “They wear their rock and roll with a strong hint of blues influences firmly on their sleeves with an honesty that might make some folks blush.”
The evening concludes with Searching for Donkeys, a more than apt way to end the night. The band started the year with a high profile support slot of Simple Minds at Stonehaven and will later this year be playing Belladrum and joining The View at the Mull of Kintyre Music Festival.
They will no doubt impress with the likes of ‘Kitty’s Favour’ and ‘Weathergirl’.
