“There is fierce competition in this particular arena and I guess to stand out you need a solid repertoire and a great voice, Charlotte has both.” Review of Charlotte Brimner at goNORTH 2014

Whilst it is hard to imagine that the stage will create as much excitement Tom Jones being announced for the mainstage, the Free Range Stage will certainly play host to a whole host of talent this year.

Michael Cassidy returns to the area following supporting Twin Atlantic on their Highland Tour and a recent goNORTH spot which earned him this comment from our reviewer ;”His vocals are spot on and accompanied by his catchy riffs, his music is a little bit irresistible.”

Other singer song-writers that played goNORTH this year that are on the bill include Dundee based Charlotte Brimner and Ewan Grant performing acoustically as Algernon Doll.

There is a strong cluster of “well kent” faces including The Whiskys playing an acoustic set which after pulling off an impress couple of slots at last years festival. Meeshelle accompanied, no doubt, by some of her band mates from Leonard Jones Potential and hoping to build on some of the momentum from her single release earlier this year. Red Ronson and their bubblegum pop anthems will return again, expect a sing along and a wee bit of chaos.

Caroline Truslove who has recently rejoined James Mackenzie with his latest project , Verona, will be playing a solo set. Another singer song writer who has frequented the Glachbeg Folk Club is Hannah Finlayson making her first appearance at the festival.

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
