Forecasting a Raintown in February

Fresh from their ‘SOLD OUT’ show in Glasgow; newly crowned BCMA ‘Duo of the Year’ – Raintown are going to be performing with their band at ‘Mad Hatters’ Inverness on Thursday 13th February.

RAINTOWN_Inverness_Mad-Hatters_SMALLCountry Music has seen a resurgence of popularity in the past few years with a raft of new and some would even suggest cool artists hitting these shores from the American heartland, including Kacey Musgraves, Lady Antebellum and Taylor Swift.

However much closer to home there is an act proving that Country Music is an exciting and relevant musical genre that is ready to make a move into the mainstream.  ‘Raintown’ – from Glasgow – are fast gaining the reputation as one of the hottest contemporary Country acts in Europe and with their catchy hooks and dynamic male/female harmonies; they have a sound that demands attention.  At a lavish London ceremony in November a sold out crowd witnessed the Scottish act pick up ‘Duo of the Year’ at the British Country Music Awards.

Raintown are Paul Bain and Claire McArthur and this real life couple have certainly been creating quite a buzz with their stunning original material and dynamic live show. They have recently performed a headline show at London’s Bush Hall, supported Wet Wet Wet and performed at the inaugural Country2Country festival at the O2 Arena London.

They also made history as the first ever Scottish act to represent the UK at CMA Fest in Nashville – the biggest Country Music event on the planet!  Claire said, “We love playing live and taking our music out on the road. We are looking forward to bringing our show to Inverness and showing people what new Country is all about.”  Paul added, “We are excited to bring our band to Inverness, we know that people in the City love live music and we want to give them a great show.”

Currently in the process of writing their new album and continuing tour throughout 2014, including trips to Inverness, Belfast, London and then later in the year another trip across the Atlantic, the coming months are going to be a busy time for the pair.

You can catch ‘Duo of the Year,’ Raintown at Mad Hatters on Thursday 13th February. Tickets are £8 (+booking fee online) Advance (£10 on the Door – Subject to Availability) from www.raintownmusic.com or from Mad Hatters (Hootananny) on 67 Church Street , IV1 1ES.

Frank Finlayson
Chartered surveyor by day, music reviewer by night, and occasionally I get to use my camera. A strange mix, but one that I enjoy. A chance meeting in the queue for Bella in 2010 led to the opportunity to write for InvernessGigs; a far cry from the days of writing for a football fanzine back in the late 80s, early 90s. My interests lie between the mainstream, the emerging and the local. Increasingly I find that we have more than enough locally to entertain us to necessitate a trip south. I’m always happy to give a listen, whatever the genre. Inverness has a plethora of talent, all of which I am more than keen to write about. If it encourages just one person to make the effort to listen to some new music I’ll be happy. You can contact Frank direct via frankieboyfin@gmail.com
