The Deep Red Sky play Hootananny on the 20th of October,2013.
They’ve been a relatively regular feature at Madhatters and Hootannanys over the last few months but this one in particular is part of a U.K. tour with Northern Irish band Amidships. The Scottish, alternative Indie, 5 piece band, combine distorted guitar and bass soundscapes with melodic, heartfelt harmonies and… a glockenspiel!
They have just released their latest single ‘Kids‘which is a darker more introspective reworking of MGMT’s classic hit of the same name. It’s a bold move to release a song that is still going to be relatively fresh in people’s minds but this possibly works in their favour. They’ve made the song their own and it compels you to stop and give it your full attention.
The Deep Red Sky released their debut album Plans in May 2013 and it was well received by blogs and radio alike, receiving support from the likes of Jim Gellatly (Amazing Radio, In Demand), Tom Morton (Radio Scotland), Iain Anderson (Radio Scotland) and Sarah Champion (Absolute Radio).
From an Inverness Gigs perspective it’s yet another album from a Scottish act that shows that the Scottish music scene is arguably at its strongest in many years. It sits easily alongside recent offerings from Roddy Hart, Frightened Rabbit and Admiral Fallow.
