A brief review of Duncan Overmeer at amaSing on Saturday 31st August, 2013.
Quite simply, Duncan Overmeer doesn’t get bad reviews and I’m not about to break with tradition. He is a generous engaging performer, to the extent that you actually get two for the price of one – he seldom travels without his alter ego Matchstick Maker.
A warm personality he has a deeply melodic vocal range that appears effortless. His narratives describing the background to his songs are as engaging as the songs themselves and I suspect that this locates him in a folk tradition. I’m guessing he wouldn’t object to that, his songs certainly have an enduring and timeless appeal allied to a craft and ability that shines.
