A review of Ashley and the Cosmonauts opening the Garden Stage , Belladrum, 2nd of August Belladrum.
The sun came out to shine down on Belladrum , Ashley and the Cosmonauts opened the Garden Stage and truly started the party atmosphere. All eyes were on Ashley as she walked on stage in a fluorescent summer dress (you can read about her pre-gig preperation when Ashley spoke to us prior to the gig) and was enticing people to come down the front to dance.
There’s always a chance the first band on stage at any festival won’t pull an impressive crowd, however this wasn’t the case for Ashley and the Cosmonauts, with the bottom field filled with people dancing and spectators taking their places up the hill.
Whilst it would be easy to compare their sound to Fleetwood Mac, this doesn’t truly give them the credit they deserve. They played a set of easy listening music including some of their own gems like “Behind These Eyes” and “Clouds” as well as a cover of Josh Rice’s “Love Vibration” getting the band and crowd moving about.
Robin Abott, naturally attracted attention as he yielded his rather glorious double bass. Ashley took the time to introduce the remainder of the band, receiving a very warm reaction from their crowd of adoring fans. Their set proved that there’s a place for them in today’s music industry as they’re playing music from an era we all wish we could go back to, if not just for the music.
