Following on from The Boosts appearance at the festival in 2011, they were invited to return this year which they were unable to accept. Paul Elliot (formerly of The Boosts) was however able to suggest a clutch of acts that were keen to show the Festival the best of what they have got. Subsequently the 20th and 21st of May will see The Whisky River Band, Megan Blyth, Jake Bolt and Barry Mackay play Liverpool’s Cavern Club and Cavern Pub.

Dave Bash, event promoter, said of the “Highland Invasion”:

“One of my favourite bands at last year’s International Pop Overthrow Festival in Liverpool was The Boosts, and I’m extremely glad that this year we’re going to have more fab artists from the Inverness/Highland area!  I look forward to hearing Jake Bolt’s new project, the keen music and personal lyrics of Megan Blyth, the classic rock ‘n roll styling of Barry MacKay, and the eclectic, gusty sounds of The Whisky River Band.  Talent from that area springs forth like a volcano, and we’re glad to have a few of the lava streams at this year’s IPO Liverpool!”

The schedule of their appearances (subject to change) are as follows:

The Whisky River Band – The Cavern Club, Sunday 20th of May @ 3.45pm / The Cavern Pub, Monday 21st of May @ 5.45pm

Barry Mackay – The Cavern Club, Sunday 20th of May @ 3pm / The Cavern Pub, Monday 21st of May @ 5pm

Jake Bolt – The Cavern Club, Sunday 20th of May @ 2.15pm / The Cavern Pub, Monday 21st of May @ 4.15pm

Megan Blyth – The Cavern Club, Sunday 20th of May @ 1.30pm / The Cavern Pub, Monday 21st of May @ 3.30pm

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
