Michael Bull reviews 2011

Last Summer Effect are well known in the local scene for being quite simply the nicest bunch of blokes. Their relentlessness and motivation is matched by their politeness and their support of music in the area. A hard working band who are always entertaining, whilst able to put together some catchy tunes. So it would have been wrong for us to have not ensured that one of the band did a review of the year. This year Michael Bull took the opportunity…

How has 2011 been for you musically?

2011 has been really good. My band has come on a long way, with the recording and launch of our latest EP “Say What You’re Thinking” and much more such as playing at Belladrum. It has also been really good due to the quality and also quantity of the local bands and acts.

What was the best local act this year. and why?

My favourite local acts this year has to be Planisfear & Esbjerg (nothing to do with them being my friends and most definitely not biased in the slightest bit). They were playing on the We Own Mother’s Ruin stage at Belladrum this year, and although I missed their initial set (clashed with ours) I got to see them on the Saturday night closing the stage as they were drafted in at last minute. A thoroughly brilliant set.

What was the best non-local act you have seen this year?

Has to be Enter Shikari or Letlive

What was your favourite music experience this year?

Without a doubt, supporting letlive at the Ironworks. They had been one of my favourite acts over the last year and I was honoured to share the bill with them, also you couldn’t meet such a nice bunch of guys.

What do you want from Santa?

An 18″ Zildjian Oriental China would go down very nicely.

What’s your hopes for the music scene in 2012?

I hope it continues the way it has done over the past year, progressing and growing.

What are your plans for 2012?

To try and push my band as much as possible, play more across Scotland and aim to play some festivals.

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
