Alan Macpherson has been an important figure in the club scene running underground club nights in Inverness, currently as Audiolife, I also DJ and have a keen interest in producing. With the Winter Club Showcase looming, what better time to ask Allan about 2011…
How has 2011 been for you musically?
2011 has being a good year and what better way to start it off by being asked to play along side Dave Clarke back in February when the Ironworks took him to Inverness. We also had our Evolve nights running at Cake which myself and Brian Mackenzie ran until Halloween this year when the club closed its doors.
We had some big names at cake like Slam, Gary Beck, Altern8 and some not so big names but equally just as good at what they do, this along side a lot of emerging local DJ’s. Cake was a cool place that let people express themselves, It brought a lot of like minded people together and was 100% right behind the electronic music scene in Inverness.
What was the best local act this year. and why?
The best local act for me this year is without doubt Debukas ‘John Clark’ you have to see this man playing Live to appreciate what he does. He is signed to Ralph Lawson’s lable 2020vision which is also home to Mark Broom, Maya Jane Coles, Simon Baker and Stacey Pullen to name a few. Alot if not all the vocals in his tracks are by himself check out (Debukas Tribute To Aaron-Carl – My House) on youtube.
What was the best non-local act you have seen this year?
For me this was Chicago based DJ Derrick Carter, it was a privilege to see him playing only 7 miles from my door. He closed the afterburner @ Rockness this year and for me it summed up my whole weekend. His set was inspirational and a great finish to a great festival.
What was your favourite music experience this year?
This year was a great year getting to play at Rockness was a definite highlight but been asked to play at Belladrum and for the closing set of the Festival was incredible having been born and bred half a mile down the road it meant that little bit more.
What do you want from Santa?
Apart from the obvious a PreSonus StudioLive Digital Mixer wouldn’t go a miss!
What’s your hopes for the music scene in 2012?
I hope the people that can support the local DJs and producers in Inverness continue to do so, there are so many boys and girls in Inverness that have skills in so many different areas, but don’t always get a chance to use them, support is there in small doses but not always handed out on merit of skill and hard work.
What are your plans for 2012?
Musically I plan to cut back on running gigs in 2012 and use this time to concentrate solely on DJing and producing in the hope to get booked for more gigs. I still hope to run 1-2 Audiolife gigs per year but make them bigger and better.
Got anything to plug?
Iv just got round to uploading some videos form all the gigs we have done over the years, so keep an eye out to see if you can see any faces appearing at http://www.youtube.com/user/AudiolifeInverness
