For us the Summer Shindig, earlier this year, was almost perfect. A lovely day, homely food, delicious beer an a clutch of music (local and other wise), it was like being in an Jamie Oliver or Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall programme (without the annoying TV chef personalities), almost perfect.
As with most things that are perfect, you want to protect them and so for a while, those that would listen, would have heard us talk about the fact that we did not want or need another event at the Brewery.
So, it was with some anxiety, we first heard about Jocktoberfest, another event in the same location with the same mentality. This time however the ambition is larger with subsequently a bigger line up, wider ranger of genres and a heavy ,and to be commended, local bias.
The line up appears incomplete with some bands announcing on Facebook but not yet on the official website.
Adrian Telfer (keep an eye on invernessGiGs for more news), will be joined by Jamie Reid, Ashley Mackay and Ben Hesling, Megan Blyth, Neil Kinghorn and Sara Bills & the HasBeens. On the heavier side we have Kobi, Parmaviolets and an all electric Last Summer Effect (following a spree of acoustic sets recently). The local scene is further supported by Highland Hotclub, Mystic Shoes, Hoodja and Rooty Ma Toot Big Band. For further bands appearing see here. The organisers have paid attention to what’s happening on the Inverness scene and booked some of the best available across a mix of styles.
Of course it’s not just about the bands, with a range of beer from throughout the country.
We have our fingers crossed that lightning (metaphorical of course) will strike twice and that this Jocktoberfest will be as good, if not better, than the previous shindig.
Jocktoberfest 2011 is on the 9th and 10th of September.
The event is free but registration is obligatory (see the form here)
