DEXTROUS duo Clouds float over a line-up of local DJs at Ironworks on Saturday the 9th of April
. Before taking to international skies, the Perth youngsters headline a Filth Easter special, giving Inverness electroheads a test-flight of their repertoire
Clouds are high school friends Liam Roberton and Calum Macleod. At the tender age of nineteen, they already have airplay on BBC Radio One, are signed to Fake Blood’s label Blood Records and released their first ep ‘Numbers’ on Tiga’s Turbo Recordings at Glasgow’s Subclub on Friday night.
Clouds’ low-frequency, bass-driven tracks combine electro, techno and house, attracting the attention of superstars DJs such as Erol Alkan, Annie Mac and Sinden to name but three. Clouds by invitation have also remixed tracks by Proxy, Dem Slackers and Underworld. They have also appeared on Boys Noize’s recent DJ Mag mix CD with their rap sampling stormer, “Sucker”.
Boys Noize said: “Tiga played this out in Glasgow and I asked him what this was. He said, ‘Do you see those 18-year-old guys going nuts in the front row? It’s from them!’ It’s their first track ever and hopefully it helps them to quit jobs at McDonald’s!”
Fake Blood heaped praise on his protégés after “discovering” them on Facebook: “I played their songs out and got great reactions every time. I thought, I should release these…these tunes really do the trick!”
His description of Clouds’ first release ‘Liquid’ perfectly captures the essence of their sound: “A bass-line drops that sounds like a giant striding through a massive warehouse party. His first pass is reasonably friendly, if purposeful. His second visit is less happy and he’s wielding a large power tool.”
Clouds’ DJ sets are a high energy mix of techno/electro. Their reputation has snowballed throughout Scotland. Having played to a packed Arches nightclub in Glasgow at Hogmanay, the pair have announced they will be tearing up the Subclub arena at Rockness in June.
Liam Roberton is keen to share the Clouds experience with Highland clubbers before embarking on international domination. He said: “We are looking forward to playing in Inverness. It’s our first time and we’re pretty excited!”
Filth promises to be another ripping night with support from residents Ross Lyall and Andrew McGibbon. A further five local DJs are playing over two rooms utilising the now infamous Filth visuals, light show and sound system.
