Introducing Jerry Harmon’s (Grammy Nominee) Highland Tour
Jerry Harmon was born into a family rich in the tradition of story telling and music. His home, deep in the foothills of the Blue Ridge / Appalachian mountains, reverberated daily to the sound of music in many different forms.
Harmon’s musical career was launched at an early age, strumming a banjo fashioned from wood and groundhog hide by his uncle Gene. Radio programmes featuring Hank Williams Sr, Flatt & Scruggs and Ray Price also proved a lasting influence.
At the age of 12, with his Sears & Roebuck Truetone guitar in hand and an earnest determination, Harmon tackled his first music lessons from a book by the famed North Carolina performer Arthur Smith that showed chords on the guitar. After years of local and regional performing, his first break came in 1998 with an invitation to appear at North Carolina’s renowned Merle-Fest, where he attracted the attentions of some of America’s most celebrated musicians: Ricky Skaggs, Tony Rice, Marty Stuart, Earl Scruggs and Dolly Parton.
As a result, a friend Damon Danielson , with strong Nashville connections, helped him gain valuable experience and exposure at a higher level. Jerra was connected with Mike Kinnamon a well known Nashville producer,manager and the Senior Partner of Music Central records at that time.
Harmon quickly gained recognition as an accomplished guitarist with a unique style and a gifted songwriter and singer.
He has appeared at major festivals and venues in the US and Canada, and has now begun to make inroads into Europe, with appearances in Ireland, the UK and Germany.
